Choir Regionals!

This weekend I went to my choir regionals… I had sooooo much fun! We practiced all day and then in the evening we all had a concert. We had four different songs. Kyrie, A Red Red Rose, The Maidens Farewell, and Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.

Kyrie was a very slow graceful song. It was greek and there were only 3 words: Kyrie, eleison, and Christe. The pronunciation of Kyrie is Keehrieh. This means God. There are many different translations but this is the most common. Eleison is very soft and picky and is sung as eehlehyisōōn, the meanig is mercy. The final word is Christe. The pronunciation is very harsh with the C, Chreesteh, the meaning is Christ. This song you fill all of the R’s. All together the song is saying: God, God mercy. Christ, Christ mercy. But when sung in greek it is gorgeous.

A Red, Red Rose is a very beautiful slow song that requires a lot of strength. The harmonies are very difficult. There are 3 voice parts. Soprano 1, Soprano 2(thats what I am), and Alto. The melody belongs to the Soprano 1s, and the Altos and the Soprano 2s are the harmony. All together they have a beautiful song.

The Maidens Farewell is our A cappella piece. This tempo is very quick so we don’t get much of a break in between phrases to take a breath. This piece is an older lyric song and it requires you to open you mouth very tall like you are biting an apple. I love The Maiden Farewell because it has a very challenging way of singing it. The time signature is in 6/8 which all of the other pieces are in 4/4 or 3/4.

The final piece is Ain’t No Mountain High Enough. This is most likely a piece that you have heard but this was called our “fun piece”. The words on this was challenging to grasp especially when to come into sing. But this piece was up beat and fun. It was the last piece that we did and it is one of those songs that gets stuck in your head after you sing it.

I loved regionals and all the thugs that we sang but some of the songs were a little lengthy. I had a ton of fun but the best thing was performing.

Love

This post is because of valentines day coming up soon….

Love is one of those things that is very hard to find. My parents were no joke– “love at first sight”. My parents were in college and they saw each other across the room and they fell in love.
Love is the one thing that is un predictable. You can’t just say that your in love with someone. You have to feel the strength of the love. Wanting something that you can’t have until the right person comes along is very hard and sad. Some people never find anyone until they are old.
When someone has found their true love, they almost cannot be separated. My parents– my cousins– my aunts– my uncles, they have all found their true love. My mom has been married to my dad for almost 32 years. I think most people would think they cannot spend their life with the same person– but that is what true love is. Continue reading »

Pet I’ve known

” Mom!!!” I yelled at the top of my lungs-even though she was standing 2 feet away. ” I found the perfect little puppy from the litter!”
We all called her rainbow collar. She was the cutest little thing! To be able to differentiate the different puppies, they have on different little colored collars. I knew by the way that she put out her energy that she was the puppy for us.
Now we have her and she is 6 years old. She is so special to us. She makes us smile and laugh everyday. She knows what we feel and she is always there for us. Nikita Is our first dog and we love her to death! We have two other dogs now which are Nobu and Nia. The are both special to us but in different ways. I love our dogs. Ever since I set eyes on them.

I am From…

I am from the colorful rooms, from the dog toys, from the bath scents.

I am from the two story house, with the old furniture.

I am from the palm trees in the front yard.

The flowers petals that have fallen off in the cold weather.

I am from the long line of over achievers and happiness.

From Valerie and John.

I am from the active and organized lifestyle, and from the telling of our best thing and our worst thing of our day.

I am from the lullabies that made me go to sleep and from the hopes and dreams, and from the never give up saying.

I am from the big family reunions.

I am from Austin,Texas and from the Germans, British, and Czechoslovakia, and the kolaches during Easter.
From the endless smiles from my mom when she sees all of us. From the recurring memories that I have every day.

Place

My favorite place in my house… The living room with the golden coach. I feel like I can think there. I can read there.
The blinding sunlight when I look out the window. I step back and see the sheer golden curtains glistening in the light. I grab my book and lay down on the coach with my back to the sun. The sun creates the perfect glow onto the pages of my book.
The golden swirls in the upholstery. The room is joyful. It doesn’t have a bunch of clutter or darkness, it’s perfect. The colors on the walls warm the room. My place is right in the living room, and I’m happy when I’m there.

Rain

The thump against my bedroom window. I can see luquid mud falling from the gutters, it’s more like water with a little bit of mud mixed in. I run downstairs because I had a sudden craving for ice cream when i spot or little home made drain was clogged up. The driveway was starting to fill up with water.
I grab my rain boots and the stick we use to unclog it and run outside. I find the opining and pierce the surface, I jump ontop of the ledge and go through the other side of the hole. The water was now gushing out onto the grass. “My job is done here.” I think to myself.

Perfection

I lay with my earbuds shoved into my ears, the cool water of the pool is right beside me. The sun is blazing hot. My favorite song roars in my earbuds as I close my eyes and relax.
Mouthing the words I start to think “could this day get any better?” Then my best friend jumped into the pool and splashed me with water from her cannon ball.
“Great, now I’m all wet,” I say with a smirk.
She giggles while saying ” now your gonna be soaked!”
Wrenching my earbuds out of my ears I knew what was going to happen. She pulls me from my feet and makes me flop into the pool. I clenched my teeth as I went underwater.
Yes, now this day was perfect. No, it might not sound perfect to you, but to me it was. That is my way of thinking something is perfect.
“Today is a day that I will remember for a long time,” I think to myself.

Volleyball Game

As I enter the gym I spot the other team. I was feeling good about this game. I changed into my jersey and ran out to get on the court to warm up. As the game was about to start my team got in a huddle and we all had a “pep talk” about how we can win if we out our minds to it. We hustled on the end line and got into our places. This was going to be a good game.

Prepositional poems

Among the crowd, singers with great courage and passion, wait
Standing next to the microphone with the suspense of everyones satisfaction
The stands filled upon a crave for music
With only one song
Hundreds of people line up to conquer their dreams
Four judges, one chance to woo them all
You’ll either make the cut or the opposite…
This is the X- Factor
